7 Best Toys for Beagle Puppies: Chewing and Playing

By now, you already know how energetic and naughty beagle pups can be. They just want to play all the time. It is just impossible to entertain them all the time, and that’s when toys come to your rescue.

There are so many choices in the market for puppy toys, but the problem is most of them are not really safe. You see, beagles are strong chewers even when they are just puppies. They can easily break toys into small pieces and may swallow them.

After trying hundreds of toys on my two beagles over the years, I managed to find a few really good quality toys. Let’s have a look.

KONG Goodie Bone Toy (Chew Toy)

If your pup is a strong chewer just like mine, then look no further and get this one. KONG is a company famous for making dog toys of supreme quality. KONG’s Goodie Bone toy is an ideal chew toy for puppies who are teething.

My younger beagle is a powerful chewer. I cannot tell you how many toys he has broken until now. But this toy has been by his side for a while. It is really durable. I bought one a year ago, and the toy is still in good shape.

To keep things interesting for your pooch, you can even stuff some tasty dog food in it. Beagles, who love to eat, don’t get bored easily with these types of treat-dispensing toys.

  • Kong Goodie Bone toy comes in two sizes, Medium and Large.
  • Highly Durable.
  • Perfect for powerful chewers.
  • An ideal toy for puppies who are teething.
  • It is specially made for Medium size dogs like beagles.
  • Good for mental stimulation.

Jolly Pets Soccer Ball (Outdoors)

Even after hundreds of years, they still have their hunting instinct to chase their prey. Although beagles are not at all aggressive, they love to chase things.

Both of my beagles love to chase balls. But the problem with most rubber balls was that my dogs would pop it off quite easily. While plastic balls are more durable, I am not sure how safe they are for their gums.

I had tried various options before finding this durable jolly pets soccer ball. It is made of some kind of material that doesn’t pop or deflate even after if it’s punched. After playing with this for a month, my beagle managed to puncher it with his sharp teeth. However, the ball didn’t lose it’s shaped at all.

Here’s a video of a dog playing with this ball:

  • It is made with Jolly Flex Material, which prevents it from deflating.
  • Perfect for swimming play. It floats.
  • It comes in two sizes: 6 Inch and 8 Inch (Diameter). I think the 6-inch one is perfect for beagle pups.
  • It comes in three colors: Green, Blue, and Red.
  • Made in the USA.

Rope Toys (Tuf of war)

While the tug of war just seems like a regular game, it’s benefits are beyond any. Tug of war is a great way to teach a young beagle ‘leave.’

Beagles are infamous for being naughty and mischievous, especially when they are puppies. No matter how careful you are, sooner or later, your pooch will get a hold of something important to you, like your new shoe or an expensive dress. And once he gets it, you know it very well what’s coming next; the destructive chewing. At such times, the command ‘leave’ becomes handy.

You can get this set of 5 ropes with different texture and start with the tug of war. You can read this article to teach your puppy how to ‘leave’ on command.

Here’s my Groot when he was a puppy playing tug of war with a rope toy (Oh I miss his puppyhood):

KONG Stick Dog Toy (Teething)

Puppy teething is a difficult phase for your pooch as well as you. To ease the pain in their gums, they start chewing on everything they see, shoes, furniture, clothes. Apart from causing monetary damage, chewing on wrong things can be harmful to your puppy too.

During this stage, it is essential to provide good quality teething toys with different textures. One of such toy my younger beagle, Groot, would love was Kong Puppy Teething Stick. I have suggested this toy to so many of our fellow beagle owners and would suggest you too.

You can add a layer of dog-friendly peanut butter inside this toy and make it more interesting.

Here’s a video this toy in use:

  • Soft and durable.
  • Cleans teeth and improves the oral hygiene of your puppy.
  • It can be stuffed with treats.
  • It comes in three sizes: Small, medium, and large. I think the medium one is ideal for beagle puppies.
  • Made in the USA and ships globally.

Hide and Slide Toy (Food Puzzle)

Apart from just physical exercise, beagles need mental stimulation too. This can be achieved by teaching them some tricks or giving them challenging tasks. You can also use interactive puzzle toys that give out treats when a dog solves it.

Hide and slide toys are great for exercising your puppy’s mind. However, these toys are not for puppies who are teething, because they would just start chewing it impatiently and try to break it. Most puzzle games, including this one, are for elder puppies who have completed their teething process.

Here’s a hand-in video of this toy:

  • Engaging dog interaction toy which dispenses treats.
  • Durable.
  • Interactive and challenging for a beagle puppy.

Bully Sticks (Dental Care)

Bully sticks can be tough to categorize. Let me describe it in the best way possible. Bully sticks are long-lasting chew toys that are edible and good for dental health. They remove tartar and plaque and help to maintain good dental care.

There are so many controversies regarding the safety of rawhides. Bully sticks are a great and safer alternative to rawhide bones. They do not contain any harmful additives and chemicals. They are made of natural beef and never splinters.

Both of my beagles, Groot, and Yoda still enjoy occasional treats of bully sticks.

  • Prevents tartar and plaque buildups.
  • Made of 100% Natual beef, making them fully digestible.
  • No risk of splinters.
  • Long-lasting.
  • Available in two packages: 6-inch (20 sticks) and 12-inch (12 sticks).

You can buy it from Amazon.

Hide a Squirrel Plush(For Young Puppies)

When my Groot was young, he just loved this toy. How it works is, you hide the squirrel inside the tree trunk and let your puppy seek it and take it out. It is an ideal toy for beagle pups who are 3 to 6 months old. However, if your dog is a powerful chewer, then this toy may not work that well.

This is their official video of this toy:

  • Super fun for young and curious beagle puppies.
  • Interactive puzzle play.
