Beagles are a chewer. My beagle used to love chewing and destroying things in the house until I started giving him bones. Bones have been a great help curving the destructive chewing of my pooch.
Apart from that, they are good for the dental health of your dog. It helps strengthen the gums and keeps them clean.
Over the years, I have struggled a lot to find good quality bones, which are safe for my beagle. I checked my order history; apparently, I had ordered 46 different bones till now, and here’s a list of 10 best bones that are safe for beagles.
Synthetic Bones vs Rawhide Bones
There are mainly two types of bones available in the market:
- Synthetic Bone
- Rawhide Bone
Both of these can be healthy and safe for beagles. It’s just a matter of preference.
You might have heard cases of dogs falling ill after eating their bones. Well, there is indeed a tiny percentage of risk involved in giving it, regardless of the type.
However, you can drastically lower down the risk by not leaving your pooch alone with the bone. You see, your beagle can break and swallow a big chunk of the bone, which can be dangerous. So always monitor him after giving the bone.
Synthetic Bones
- As the name suggests, these bones are made synthetically.
- Synthetic bones are of two types, non-edible as well as edible. So look for the label before buying one.
- They do not have any risk of forming natural bacteria.
- There are tons of options in different sizes, flavors, and materials.
- Your beagle can break it and swallow a chunk. It can lead to indigestion and upset stomach. The risk increases with non-edible bones. So do not let your pooch chew on these bones without supervision.
Rawhide Bones
- Rawhide bones are made of natural ingredients.
- Most of them are edible.
- They are healthier than synthetic bones.
- However, cheap quality bones may contain some preservatives and artificial coloring. So prefer good quality ones.
- There have been some reports of dogs getting diarrhea after eating them.
As you can see, both of these bones have their own pros and cons. It’s up to you what you prefer. I would say you should try both of these and see which one your beagle prefers the most.
I have listed down both the types of bones below, so let’s have a look.
1. Nylabone Healthy All-Natual Chew Treats

My second most favorite bone is Deluxe Naturals Pack Antlers. They are made with bone-like materials. I know, I know they are not exactly bones, but this alternative can be even better. They are something in between bones and sticks.
As the name suggests, it is made of Elk antlers. However, the company claims that no harm was done to any animal. They only use naturally shed antlers.
If your beagle is a strong chewer, then this could be perfect. Even though this is okay for beagles of any age, I would not suggest it for puppies. You see, puppies love to chew things which have some flavors, and I am not sure this product contains any. I tried giving it to my dog when he was a pup, and he just got bored after some time and never touched it.
However, my elder beagle enjoys chewing this. After a long walk, he would get this bone and sit in a corner and satisfy his urge to chew. So I think it works well with adult dogs.
